Cirque du Soleil: AmaLuna

Could this be the best Cirque du Soleil ever? I found myself wondering this as I sat in the front row of Cirque's newest creation, AmaLuna. With a set inspired by nature, and costumes with Elizabethan, Asian, Scandinavian, and peacockian--peacockian?--influences, this contemporary circus is a lush ride for the senses.

While this show didn't have the double ferris wheel or midget-in-a-ball that some past shows have had, this new take on the Cirque series does not disappoint. Features include:
* 5' 5" waterbowl which set the stage for watery acrobatics
* All female live band
* Death defying pole work
* Things (in true Cirque style) that are nearly impossible to describe but bring tears to the eyes

By the end of the show we were all standing clapping and wishing it wasn't ending. And I realized that while each show has its highlights and unique beauty, there is an easy to answer which is the best. The best Cirque du Soleil is the one that I am at right now.

Verdict: AmaLuna is Dahlworthy. Catch it now before it goes away to San Francisco.

AmaLuna is in town (Mall of America, Bloomington) through October 20.
